For those of you who have ordered cheese at Otto (part of the Molto Mario chain here in NYC), you know about the wonders of truffle honey. It's nothing short of outrageously addictive. Sweet, fragrant honey is laced with chopped black truffle, creating a balance of earthiness and sweetness that explodes in your mouth with flavor.
While in Montalcino, we were served an excellent, floral and fragrant local honey with a plate of cheeses. But the menu called out the truffles in the honey, but I know truffle
honey dammit, and there weren't any truffles to be found. My mother loved the regular honey and purchased a few small bottles of it, but ended up buying the truffle honey instead. This mix up annoyed her for some reason, so she gave them to me. We served a bottle a few days later with local cheeses at our villa in Umbria. Seriously, this honey is so damn good that if Sandra Lee was covered in it, I'd even lick it off of her.
I'm down to my last small bottle but I know I will be a cracked-out mess once I run out. Of course, I've contacted the producer Calugi via their website, begging them to tell me where I can get it in the States or whether they can send me a lifetime supply. Nothing. I have found some other brands on the web but fear disappointment (average honey or lack of truffle flavor). Does anyone out there have any truffle honey tips for me? Please? Where does Otto get theirs? Let me know and I'll be your bestie.

dean & deluca at b'way and prince has truffle honey. i forgot the name of the brand, but i've definitely had it before and it was incredibly good.

Has anyone tried the de Rosaario truffle honey?
I think it is out of this world and quite price friendly too.

I currently import a very high quality truffle honey into the U.S. from Italy. Plenty of truffle flavor. I would be happy to send you some to try. We currently distribute through Chef Source in Michigan.

Did you order any? Do your recommend one? I have had that honey at Otto and I have had some from France, and they both blew my mind. I'd like to order some for my father for father's day so if there is one in particular that you approve of, please let me know. Thanks.

I was at Otto the other day (so good!!) and the waitress said it was easy to make the truffle honey at home by shaving black truffle into clover honey. Haven't tried it yet, but am definitely going to..

making truffle honey is quite easy.... Just shave about 2 oz (or what you can afford) of fresh truffles into a stainless steel bowl, place over pot w/ water to make a double boiler and add about 8 oz of honey (clover honey works well). Bring water to a boil. Heat honey until it reaches about 185 degrees and keep there for about 10 minutes. Pour into sterilized bottle. Strain if desired but why?
bon appetit!

I love Otto! But I like that there are little pieces of truffle that you can see in the honey. The ones I found on websites don't seem to look like that. Ideas?

I have a shop at Pike Place Market in Seattle, specializing in Truffles (and other especially yummy things), and we sell both White and Black Truffle Honeys! Best of all, we let you taste them, first, on our Sample Table, which is just groaning under the weight of all of the goodies we think you'll fall in love with: Truffle Creams, Truffle Oils, Truffle Salt, Aged Balsamicos, and lots more! (Also available online: www.TruffleCafe.com) And, of course, you should linger and enjoy one of our $5 Daily Wine Tastings... Check us out on Yelp. See you soon! - The Truffle Queen

I LOVE this truffle honey. The aroma that fills the air when you first open the bottle entices you to use it on everything on site! I have served it many different ways: with manchego cheese, dates and honey drizzled over the cheese; as part of marinade for roast chicken; on a baguette with goat cheese...drizzle to your hearts content...I had people over for dinner and I served it as dessert, chunks of parmigian0 cheese drizzled with this and fresh raspberries..
